Dear friends,
I am pleased to share that I’m welcoming the spring season with some exciting news for Cloth & Goods, as well as for me personally. I have been packing up shop and getting ready to head to the sunnier climes of Maui, where both my adult children are currently living. I spent several years living on the island prior to relocating to the Pacific Northwest 8 years ago, and I’m very much looking forward to returning to live near by the ocean. Though I will doubtless miss Portland, the move will bring healthy change and growth to the shop, and will fulfill a desired chapter in my family life.
One of the main reasons I have decided to make this leap across the Pacific is to embark on a collaborative project of designing and building a family compound alongside my daughter. I imagine this endeavor will provide an endless amount of creative inspiration that will flow into new Cloth & Goods products, as I’ll be seeing with fresh eyes exactly the kinds of objects I want to be filling my eventual home with—which I am excited to then be able to make available to you. I’m looking forward to rediscovering how this vastly different landscape will invigorate and infuse the perspective with which I design products, and will affect how I choose collaborators to work with in the coming months. I will continue to travel and source items abroad, and am particularly happy that the flight time to Japan will be significantly reduced!
Another project on the horizon that I’m happy to announce is that we will be venturing into a line of wholesale products. Although still in the development stages, you can expect to hear additional news about plans and progress in the near future.
Even amidst the move, the store will be operational, though I expect there will a few weeks’ delay as we settle into our new home and get things slowly unpacked and sorted. I’m sending out my utmost thanks in advance for your patience! Following our move, I anticipate releasing a series of new products that you can also keep your eyes open for.
In short, I think this transition is a healthy development for Cloth & Goods, and I’m eager to continue sharing the upcoming changes as they take shape. As always, I’ll be open for studio visits and meetings by appointment, so once we’ve settled down a bit I will look forward to welcoming any island visitors. You can also follow us on various social media outlets for any updates, changes and new products. I continue to be grateful for your patronage, and appreciate your ongoing support during this new adventure.
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Happy spring season ahead,
Melissa Newirth
